Two Under Two
The transition from being a mom of 1 to being a mom of 2 was one of the most challenging and beautiful seasons in my life. I vividly remember tears streaming down my face as I tucked Jude in for bed one last time as an only child the night we went in for Knox’s induction. The transition from being a mom of 1 to 2 is even more challenging when you have two babies under the age of two.I remember the rollercoaster of emotions. One moment I was elated that another baby was coming into the world, and in the very next breath I also had a lot of fear or guilt.
Learning how to navigate life after welcoming a second baby can knock the wind out of you. But man, I wouldn’t have traded those early days for anything in the world. Welcoming a second baby will teach you that your love is endless. It will remind you just how fleeting time is as you hold that tiny newborn and look across the room to see your firstborn. All of a sudden, in a matter of moments, you will now see your firstborn as the “older” child and it is a crazy phenomenon. Your heart will expand larger than you thought possible. You will watch your firstborn step into their role as the older brother or older sister. It may take some time to adjust, but soon enough you will see them take ownership of their new family role. You just created their lifelong best friend. The friend that they can call on when they have bad dreams at night to snuggle with. The friend they can team up with and play pranks on mom. The friend they can share laughter with and their childhood memories with. You just created their person. Your hands are more full but so is your heart.
The Nichols Family Maternity Session
I had the honor of photographing this sweet family when they welcomed their firstborn Miller into the world and once more for his first birthday! During his birthday session Charleigh let me in on the little secret that they were pregnant with baby number two! Fast-forward a few months and they were back in the studio for her maternity session with baby girl. All of a sudden, Miller didn’t seem like such a baby anymore. It reminded me so much of the weeks leading up to Knox’s delivery. In fact, Charleigh was having contractions before the session- that’s just how close she was to meeting that sweet girl. Despite the contractions, Charleigh was absolutely stunning and that mama glow was all over her!
